Azok and the Sorcerers

Nearly a millennium ago, the walls of our realm began to falter as the dimension of Choarta scratched its way into Wyl. Azok, the dragon of shadow and chaos broke through and began converting the Southlands of Gouidaria and bringing the people under his horrid reign. A small group formed a fellowship, among them was a sorcerer called Malakai and his apprentice, John. After the group found a way to corner Azok, he began lashing out in such a powerful and violent rage that truly stopping him seemed hopeless. Malakai cast a powerful spell using the Ethereal Gem to enslave Azok within himself. A walking prison, a walking tomb. After containing the powerful entity within himself, Malakai would soon after feel the corruption from within begin to take over his mind and his body changed to reflect the demon inside. What remained of Malakai asked John to banish him, to send Malakai and so Azok with him away from Wyl. John used the gem and accessed the power of his master and Azok within to lock Malakai and Azok away in choarta, cursing him to an endless life of floating among the dark madness. In the realization of what he had doomed his friend to, and an immeasurable state of grief, John laid waste to the lands and began destroying entire regions using the power of the Ethereal Crystal. The observers saw this and pulled John from Wyl into trial. Upon weighing his actions and power, they cast him back down to Wyl with a curse. Never may he harm another, nor the lands unless they be tainted by true darkness.

Almost a thousand years had passed, the breaches finally began to reveal themselves once more. Malakai returned to the planes of Wyl, now tainted and corrupted by the mind of Azok, and hid away among abandoned fortress ruins. John remained waiting for him, the years in his cursed state brought him to unimaginable unseen sorrow. Malakai lead another uprising and began corrupting the lands once more. By then, John had learned and perfected his master's spell to imprison Azok. Upon finding the opportunity to weaken and corner Malakai, John took Azok into himself as his new prison. Malakai was finally freed from his affliction and was for the last moment of his life, able to look John into the eyes for his final goodbye, and died as a man. Azok now in John's mind, yet with the spell perfected, also separated as a personality and unable to corrupt John's mind. With the curse of the observers keeping both John and now Azok at bay, the war was over, and Azok's power was diminished.

Over the course of the next few years, Azok's spirit would be affected by John's soul. Over time, John's body would transform into a large dragon man like form during his times of rest. Azok would be forced to see the world through the eyes of a Wylean. Over time, his spirit would reform into a soul and the emotions of the human would change him forever. Upon seeing that John had served sufficiently for his crimes, the observers finally permitted him to die, leaving Azok with the body and the curse to learn how to serve as Gouidaria's new guardian.
